Ex-Girlfriend Sweater

"It was truly a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants moment, but dykier."                              "I don’t know when or how I acquired this jersey. Sorry to that jersey."                              "(The shirt) no longer makes me think of him. In fact, I had forgotten it had been his until you asked me to participate in this project."                               "It was one of the first early days of spring in New York, when it’s suddenly so warm after what feels like a lifetime of cold and gloom."

Shop the Zine

Hello! We have sold out of our first run of zines. Thank you to everyone who supported this project. Our remaining print copies can be found at Sweet Pickle Books on the Lower East Side.

EX-GIRLFRIEND SWEATER is a study of sartorial artifacts borrowed and stolen from the ruins of bygone love. It’s also an intentional subversion of the predominantly heteronormative narrative woven into the ‘ex-boyfriend jean’ sold to us by brands for years. Through this zine, we unearth stories of queer love, exes turned unexpected best friends and co-conspirators, and other unruly dynamics that emerge when a significant (or flash-in-the-pan) relationship morphs from one phase to another. Along the way we ask: If the clothing we (sub)consciously hold onto represents the space between our past and future selves, when does a garment become a ghost?

20 pp, digitally printed on 55gsm improved paper stock. All zine orders included a postcard + a sticker.

Independently published in London by Newspaper Club. All proceeds (save for shipping costs) from this first print run were donated to the Audre Lorde Project in November 2020.
